
Williston Officer Involved Shooting Update
The Williston Police Department has released new details regarding yesterday’s officer-involved shooting, though the investigation remains ongoing.
According to the department, only one officer discharged their firearm during the encounter.
Following the incident, immediate medical assistance was requested for Mr. Gullo by the involved officer.
A second officer responded to the scene and deployed a less-lethal launcher in an effort to disarm Mr. Gullo, who was still in possession of a knife. This action was taken to ensure the safety of everyone present, enabling officers to provide urgent medical aid to Mr. Gullo promptly.
Officer Jason Barten, a veteran of the Williston Police Department with 11 years of service, has been identified as the officer who discharged his service weapon.
Officer Alex Williams, who has been with the department for nearly a year and has three years of prior law enforcement experience, utilized the less-lethal launcher.
Following established protocols following an officer-involved shooting, Officer Barten has been placed on paid administrative leave.
