The Williston Police Department has recently received reports of a troubling scam involving a fake investment group using the name PIMCO — a name that mimics a legitimate global investment firm. The scam ropes you in with promises of high returns through a cryptocurrency trading app called "Caesar." Victims were persuaded to invest thousands of dollars, only to discover later that their accounts were locked and their funds were gone.

Here's how the scam works:

You're contacted by someone offering an "exclusive opportunity" to grow your money through crypto. They sound convincing. There's a slick-looking app. Everything feels legit — until you try to cash out. Suddenly, the support team disappears, and your money vanishes into the void.

Don’t fall for it. Protect yourself:

  • Do your homework — Research any investment platform thoroughly.
  • Be skeptical — Especially if someone contacts you out of nowhere offering guaranteed profits.
  • Watch for red flags — Lack of contact info, vague answers, or pressure to invest quickly.
  • Test the waters — If you can’t access your money, that’s a major warning sign.

If you think you've been scammed, report it right away. The sooner authorities know, the better chance they have to help others avoid the same trap.

Stay smart. Stay alert. And when it comes to online investments, if it sounds too good to be true — it probably is.
