If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if you poked the Williston community with a simple food question, we decided to find out — and let’s just say, we may have accidentally started the Hunger Games: Bakken Edition.

I tossed this innocent little question onto our station’s Facebook page: “If you could eat at just ONE restaurant forever here in Williston, which one are you choosing? Breakfast, lunch, dinner, late-night cravings… all of it.” I even encouraged folks to drop their pick and tell us why — bonus points if it made us hungry on the air.

What followed was a mouthwatering, slightly nostalgic, and occasionally emotional flood of comments. Some people came prepared with full menus. Others came with strong opinions. A few came armed with memories of restaurants long gone, and honestly, we felt that in our souls.

One name, however, kept popping up again… and again… and again.

Lonnie's Roadhouse Cafe

Lonnie’s Roadhouse Café emerged as the clear heavyweight champion of Williston dining — at least according to Facebook locals. From breakfast to dinner, soups to baked goods, and portions that apparently require stretchy pants, Lonnie’s received an overwhelming amount of love. People praised everything from the friendly, “feels-like-family” service to the hamburger mac soup, chicken-fried steak, cheesy fries, vanilla shakes, and baked goods that might deserve their own fan club. More than one person mentioned never leaving hungry, which honestly might be the highest compliment in North Dakota.

But don’t count out the rest of Williston’s food scene — this was far from a one-restaurant town.

Grandma Sharon’s had breakfast lovers rallying hard, especially for the buffet crowd and coffee shop combo.

Saga’s, Rice Bomb, BaseCamp Indian Kitchen, and 3E Pastry Café all earned passionate shout-outs, proving that Williston’s taste buds are anything but boring.

Then there were the sentimental votes. Calls to “bring back WeBe Pizza,” Burger Queen, Pit 105, Service Drug Café, and even the old Chinese restaurant in the bowling alley reminded us that food memories stick around longer than leftovers. Some cravings never fade.

Of course, no food debate is complete without a few curveballs. Taco Bell got a mention. Applebee’s made the list. Culver’s, Famous Dave’s, and even In-N-Out (we see you, dreamers) popped up too.

In the end, there really was no wrong answer — just a whole lot of love for local restaurants, local owners, and local flavors. If anything, this proved one thing loud and clear: Williston eats well, argues politely about food, and will absolutely defend their favorite spot until the last pumpkin bar is gone.

So has Williston’s favorite restaurant been revealed? According to the people… Lonnie’s may have taken the crown. But judging by the comments, the real winner is anyone who lives close enough to try them all.
