Tetons vs Bucs Women’s Basketball Pregame Primer
The Williston State Tetons in store for some home cooking as they are set for a hugely important Mon-Dak Conference battle.
Starting the evening off will be the Women's game, which tips off at 5:30 pm CST At the Well in Williston. The Tetons are looking to win the rubber match game against Dawson Community College and gain a tie breaker as well as take either sole possession of 2nd place or a tie for 2nd with BSC in the conference standings.
The last time these two teams clashed earlier in the season in Glendive, the Tetons used a big second half effort to come away with the win by the final of 60-48.
Dawson comes into the game fresh off of a 71-52 win over Bottineau. The 11-6 Bucs (6-6 Mon-Dak) could are in the same position as the Tetons coming into the game, battling for 2nd place in the conference.
Dawson is averaging 65.6 points per game while hitting 38.3% of their shots from the field, and 26.7% from beyond the arc.
Hailee Brandon leads the way in scoring, pouring in 12.7 points per game, with Michelle Arens (11.0 ppg) also contribute to the Bucs offensive output.
Williston State comes into the game 16-9 (11-6 Mon-Dak) overall on the season, and are looking to rebound from their first back to back losses in the season since November. The team is averaging 65.8 points per game, while shooting 42.7% overall and 29% from deep.
Tetons are led in scoring by Emily Kurkowsky with 14.8 points per game, and Hayley Macdonald (10.4 ppg) is also scoring in double digits.
Three things to watch for:
1. Fire Fighters: The last few games for the Tetons have not lacked offensive output, putting them in position to win late in games, however their opponents have caught fire from the field. The Tetons need to look to stop, or at least slow down anyone on the Bucs who starts heating up, especially from the perimeter.
2. Gotta Go Fast: The last time these two teams squared off, Williston State got up and down the court in a hurry and go a lot of looks in transition. With a much deeper bench, the team will have the legs to try and run the Bucs out of the gym.
3. Inside Dominance: A repeat from the last game. The Tetons have the skill, size, and depth to dominate games inside from wire to wire. With only a few games left in the regular season, will the sleeping giant that is Williston State's post presence awaken to make a deep post season run?
