The North Dakota Game and Fish Department has released that they will be increasing the number of wild turkey licenses available in the state for the 2025 spring hunting season. This year, Game and Fish will be offering 8,547 licenses, which is 410 more than last year.

Of the 21 hunting units throughout the state, eight will see more licenses this season, two will have fewer, and 11 will remain unchanged. This year, the state is the reopening Unit 21, covering Hettinger and Adams counties.

The unit was recently closed for several years due to a declining turkey population and lack of suitable habitat. Unit 21 has been extended into Units 44 and 06, providing additional hunting opportunities for outdoorsmen in North Dakota.

Spring turkey hunters wishing to participate in the 2025 season can apply online at the North Dakota Game and Fish Department's website, gf.nd.gov. The deadline for applications is February 12.

First-time hunters in North Dakota will be afforded a special opportunity: youth hunters who are 15 years old or younger and have never held a spring turkey license are eligible to receive a free license valid for any open unit across the state.

To qualify, the youth must be 15 or younger on opening day, April 12.
