North Dakota Summer Outlook Is In—and It’s Turning Up the Heat
Every year, folks across the country crack open the Old Farmer's Almanac like it’s a crystal ball with better credibility. And just like your neighbor who swears by woolly worms and aching knees, the Almanac has spoken again. Get Ready! Summer is shaping up to be a warm one… and not in the “pleasant evening on the porch” kind of way.

Our Summer Season Could Be A Warm One
According to this year’s outlook, much of the United States is in for a hot and dry summer, and that includes our neck of the woods here in North Dakota. In fact, the forecast stretches across Montana and South Dakota too, meaning the Northern Plains might be trading in lush green views for a little extra crunch underfoot.
Now, if you’ve lived here long enough, you know “hot and dry” can mean a lot of things. It could be perfect lake days, more time firing up the grill, and sunsets that make you forget you ever complained about winter. On the flip side, it might also mean keeping a closer eye on crops, lawns, and just how fast your iced tea disappears in the afternoon heat.

Of course, long-range forecasts are a bit like guessing how many mosquitoes you’ll swat at a July barbecue—there’s some science involved, but also a little mystery. Still, it’s a good excuse to start thinking ahead. Maybe line up that weekend getaway, check the sprinkler system, or finally invest in that shady backyard setup you’ve been talking about.
And hey, if nothing else, at least we won’t be shoveling snow.
So whether you’re planning road trips, tending to the garden, or just bracing for a few extra “it’s a dry heat” jokes, one thing seems certain: summer in the Northern Plains is ready to make a statement.
