Discover What’s New For Severe Weather Awareness Week
Governor Armstrong of the state of North Dakota has declared the week of April 28th through May 2nd Severe Summer Weather Awareness Week.
The second time this year the North Dakota Department of Emergency Services and the regional offices of the National Weather Service are holding a coloring contest.
This event hopes to inject some entertainment into the process of delivering important safety information. The NDResponse.gov website is offering the youth, or anyone in North Dakota, coloring pages in hopes of keeping people safe and informed.
The website offers a range of tools, including online games and a complete learning kit, together with other educational resources, for libraries and teachers.

NDResponse is available around-the-clock, every day of the year, to make sure North Dakota stays a safe and secure state should an emergency arise and the first responders in a given town's capacity be exceeded.
According to the National Safety Council, over the last five years, weather-related deaths are up 20% from 2019, and injuries have increased 120%. In 2023, the most recent data possible, over 75,000 weather events resulted in 877 deaths and 3,857 injuries.

Heat, wildfires, and tornadoes were responsible for the most deaths during 2023. The largest number of reported injuries resulted from heat, tornadoes, and winter weather.
