North Dakota Scam Alert: Beware of Fake Arrest Warrant Calls in Williston!
Reading about all of this stuff is becoming old for me, and I feel terrible for those individuals who have been taken advantage of by a con artist. Having read this over the weekend, I find myself wondering whether it will ever end.
Information has been provided to the Williston Police Department regarding several different scams that have been attempted in our region.
Individuals are receiving phone calls from "officers" informing them that a warrant has been issued for their arrest and that to get the warrant revoked, they are required to pay the "officers" with gift cards. There is no way that Williston Police will contact you over the phone regarding any warrant, even if you have an active warrant! In addition, you are not permitted to use any gift card to pay off your warrant.
Some people are getting phone calls from someone who claims to be from the Department of Homeland Security and that they have a shipment that has been seized. They must obtain personal information to release the product. Please hang up, and under no circumstances should you ever give them any personal or financial information.
It is important to keep in mind that every scammer's personal tale or circumstance may be unique. If you are asked to give any amount of money through the mail, money order, gift card, money transfer, or any other method, please make every effort to confirm that this is not a fraudulent undertaking before you send any money.
You can call the Williston Police Department at 701-577-1212, Option 2, and ask to speak with an officer if you have any questions or concerns about whether a message you received is a fraud. If you suspect that you have been a victim of a scam, or if you have any doubts about whether or not a message you have received is a scam, you can contact the department.
