Applications are being accepted by the Montana Wildlife and Transportation Partnership for collaborative, stand-alone wildlife accommodation projects intended to reduce wildlife-vehicle conflicts and enhance wildlife connectivity across Montana’s highway infrastructure.

Project applications are accepted throughout the year and are submitted through an online fillable form available on the partnership’s website. Submitted applications will be reviewed once each year beginning in April, with project selection concluding by July.

Smaller and less complex projects, including signing, fencing and minor retrofits, may be reviewed by the partnership on a rolling basis throughout the year. Projects selected for consideration will continue to be supported by the partnership through subsequent phases of project development.

The partnership’s planning tool was updated in 2025 as part of a scheduled five-year review. The update included significant changes, including the addition of new species and habitat selection models, updated traffic and wildlife-vehicle conflict data, a wildlife accommodations layer, priority areas identified in the Fish, Wildlife and Parks SO3362 Action Plan and other resources.

These updates are intended to provide improved data and guidance for project planning and application development and are available through the planning tool webpage.

Public-private collaboration is identified as an essential component of the application process, which requires coordination, time and investment. Resources, planning tools and partnership contact information are available through the partnership’s website. Potential applicants are encouraged to contact partnership members through the website’s contact link to ask questions and seek assistance related to specific project proposals and application requirements.
