Update: Evacuation Warning Downgraded At Tongue River State Park
The Big Horn County Sheriff's Office has downgraded the status at Tongue River Reservoir State Park from an Evacuation Recommendation to an Evacuation Warning as of Monday.
This adjustment indicates a less severe threat level, but caution is still advised.
Despite the downgrade, the park remains open and operational. However, the air quality has significantly deteriorated due to the expansion of several nearby wildfires since the weekend.
The heavy smoke now enveloping the lake is particularly hazardous for sensitive populations, and visitation is discouraged. Additionally, the park is currently without Internet connectivity.
Most campers and visitors chose to evacuate voluntarily on Saturday evening as wildfires in the vicinity grew rapidly.
Flames and thick smoke were visible from the campground, prompting the initial recommendation.
Although the fires have not encroached upon the park boundaries, two separate wildfires have merged into a single blaze exceeding 15,000 acres.
The situation remains dynamic, and the Evacuation Warning serves as a reminder for people to stay prepared for possible evacuation at any moment.
