Join The Effort To Improve Wildlife Habitats In Montana
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking applicants to fill three vacancies on the Wildlife Habitat Improvement Program advisory council. The open positions include a wildlife biologist, a member of a Montana Indian Tribe, and a livestock producer or a representative of a livestock producer organization in the state.
Members of the advisory council help guide the administration of the Wildlife Habitat Improvement Program and are responsible for reviewing, ranking and recommending proposed projects for funding. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks conducts the final review and determines how funds are distributed.
Recent changes to the program expanded its scope beyond noxious weed control. Following the Legislature’s passage of House Bill 932 during the 2025 session, WHIP projects will now be funded through the Habitat Legacy Account and may focus on restoring, rehabilitating, improving or managing land or water as wildlife or aquatic habitat through conservation and habitat improvement efforts.
Meeting schedules for the advisory council’s first year will be determined as the updated program is implemented. Council members are appointed by FWP Director Christy Clark.

Applications must be submitted by Feb. 27. Interested individuals can apply online through the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks website or request a paper application by calling 406-444-7291. Additional information is available from WHIP Coordinator Andrew Amidon at 406-444-7291 or by email at andrew.amidon@mt.gov.
