Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) has announced an in-person hunter education field day for students who have completed the online portion of their hunter education course. The event will take place on Saturday, February 8, from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Cottonwood Inn Convention Center in Glasgow.

The field day is mandatory for students aged 12-17 who have completed the online course and obtained their field day qualifier certificate. Students currently aged 11 and turning 12 by January 16 of the current license year are also eligible to participate. While adults 18 and older may attend the field day for hands-on experience, it is not a requirement for them.

The event will focus on two key areas: firearm safety and hunting ethics. Participants will receive hands-on instruction, practice their skills, and demonstrate their understanding through realistic scenarios. All firearms training will be conducted using inert firearms to ensure safety.

The field day will coincide with a hunter, bowhunter, and trapper educator instructor workshop, giving instructors the opportunity to observe and enhance their teaching methods. This timing also provides students with the chance to complete their certification before the spring hunting application deadlines.

How to Register:
Students must register in advance to attend the field day. To sign up or complete the online course, visit fwp.mt.gov/hunt/education/hunter. Details about the class and required paperwork will be available on the registration page.

For questions, contact course instructor Marc Kloker at 406-228-3704 or via email at mkloker@mt.gov.
