Camping Countdown Begins: Key Dates and Park Updates in Williams County for 2026

Warm temperatures around North Dakota this week are a welcome reminder that camping season is right around the corner, and local campers have plenty to look forward to in 2026. Area campgrounds are preparing to open reservations, unveil upgrades, and welcome outdoor enthusiasts back for another season of nights under the stars.

Little Egypt and Kota Ray Dam will once again be popular destinations for campers looking to lock in their favorite spots early. Beginning Monday, March 2, 2026, online reservations will open for both campgrounds, with dates available through Sunday, November 1. The reservation system will go live at 9:00 a.m. for Kota Ray Dam, followed by 9:15 a.m. for Little Egypt. Campers are encouraged to plan ahead and be ready, as these sites often fill quickly during peak weekends and summer holidays.

At Blacktail Dam, reservations will open later in the spring. Booking will begin sometime in May 2026, with the exact date announced closer to that time. Campers can expect a fresh experience this season, as officials are excited to showcase a new campground layout and updated amenities. Not all locations will be open this year. Epping/Springbrook Dam will be closed for the entire 2026 camping season due to major park renovations. The temporary closure will allow for several significant upgrades, including improved campsites with water and electric hook-ups, a unique outdoor lawn chair amphitheater, and a new comfort station featuring restrooms and showers. Once completed, these enhancements are expected to significantly elevate the camping experience at the park.

For campers who enjoy a more spontaneous approach, McGregor Dam Campground will continue to operate on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations are required, making it a great option for last-minute getaways or flexible travel plans.
