North Dakota Officials Investigating Multiple Graves Found at Capitol Grounds
This is easily one of the wildest stories to come out about Bismarck-Mandan this week. According to KFYR, a body was discovered at the Capitol Grounds sometime last month. News of this unusual discovery broke yesterday (Tuesday, June 2nd).
I'm sure you've noticed that some construction has been underway at the Governor's Mansion for some time. While crews were working at the site, they discovered something very unexpected. Human remains, coffin fragments, and hardware parts.
According to the source, the State Historical Society have been investigating this with ground-penetrating radar, and they now believe there could be as many as ten bodies buried in the construction zone.

KX News also reported on this and said the area was once used as a burial ground/cemetery during our state's early settlement period (1873-1877). Reports indicate that this could very well be one of the first cemeteries in Bismarck.
The sources also say this isn't the first time bodies have been found in the Southwest corner of the Capitol Grounds; burials had also been found in 1903 and 1959.
Now the Office of Budget and Management is looking into what to do with the remains. Construction is still active at the site.
