Hey, fellow ice cream lovers! As we all try to beat the summer heat, there's some important news about ice cream that you need to know. A Maryland-based company, Totally Cool Inc., is recalling several brands of ice cream sold nationwide because of possible listeria contamination.

The recalled brands include:

  • Abilyn’s Frozen Bakery
  • Amafruits
  • ChipWich
  • Cumberland Farms
  • Dolcezza Gelato
  • Friendly’s
  • The Frozen Farmer
  • Hershey’s Ice Cream
  • Jeni’s
  • LaSalle
  • Marco
  • Taharka
  • Yelloh

This recall covers pints of ice cream and sorbet, ice cream cakes, sandwiches, cones, and more. You can find the full list of recalled products and their lot numbers on the Food and Drug Administration’s website.

The FDA says there haven't been any reported illnesses so far, but Totally Cool has stopped production and distribution after listeria was found during routine sampling.

Only the specific products listed in the recall are affected, so other Totally Cool items should be safe.

If you've bought any of the recalled ice cream, you should return it for a full refund. Check the date and plant codes on the labels to see if your products are included.

Those with questions can contact Totally Cool customer service at 410-363-7801, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or by email at regulatory@totallycoolicecream.com.

Chipwich, whose parent company Crave Better Foods LLC operates a separate production line at the same Maryland facility, said they’re recalling the products out of an abundance of caution. Hershey’s Ice Cream has also stopped sales of potentially affected items and is asking everyone to throw away any possibly contaminated products they have.

Stay cool and safe this summer.  And make sure to check your ice cream before digging in!
