Cupid’s Got Company: North Dakota’s Single Seniors Are Ready to Mingle
Cupid’s arrows are working overtime this year, and they’re not just targeting the young and restless. A record-breaking 25.9 million American seniors will be single this Valentine’s Day, meaning the dating pool has never been deeper for the silver-haired romantics out there.

Seniorly just published a report that says North Dakota ranks as the No. 12 best state for single seniors, making it a prime location for love—or at least a friendly hand to hold during a snowy winter stroll. Thanks to excellent mental health rankings (#2), long life expectancy (#11), and strong social engagement (#11), it seems like seniors in the Peace Garden State are in a pretty good place to find companionship.
More Seniors, More Romance?
The Wall Street Journal reported the number of single seniors has jumped by 5.8 million in just the last decade, and with an additional 4.2 million Americans turning 65 in 2025, this “Gray Tsunami” means more “Silver Foxes” than ever before will be out and about, looking for love—or maybe just a great buffet deal.
And despite the stereotype that older adults have given up on romance, marriage rates for those 65 and older are at a 10-year high (56.3%) according to the US Census Bureau! Love truly knows no age limit.
Love in North Dakota: The Good and the… Scammed?
While North Dakota seniors have great odds in the dating scene thanks to a well-balanced gender ratio (#7), they also have to keep their wits about them. The state ranked #46 for romance scams, meaning lovebirds need to be careful about those "too good to be true" online suitors. (If someone claims they’re a prince stranded in Canada, it’s best to swipe left.)
On the bright side, North Dakota has low rates of seniors living with grandchildren (#2), meaning fewer interruptions from curious little ones asking awkward questions about Grandma’s new “friend.”
So, What’s Next?
So seniors, whether you're looking for love, companionship, or just someone to share a cup of coffee and complain about the weather with, North Dakota is a great place to be a single senior this Valentine’s Day. So, dust off your dancing shoes, update that dating profile, and remember—love is always in season, even if it’s -10°F outside!
