While the week didn't start out that well for Coyote Baseball as they were swept in Mandan, extending a stretch that saw them lose 7 out of their last 8 games, the back half of the week saw them get on track with two sweeps.

Coytes vs Mandan

On Tuesday, Williston traveled to Mandan for a doubleheader against the Braves, hoping to reverse their downward trend in the standings. However, the Braves had different intentions, as they defeated the Coyotes 13-3 in game 1 and then rallied from behind to win game 2 5-3.

A long-awaited return to Aafedt Stadium and 48 hours of rest was just what the doctor ordered to turn things around.

Coyotes vs BHS

On Thursday WHS hosted Bismarck High for a high-stakes affair in a congested WDA conference.

In game 1 against the Demons, the Coytes fell behind early in the game but were able to keep Bismarck from pushing the lead out thanks to strong pitch from Chase Collings on the mound and took the lead for good in the 4th inning to take home the win by the final of 5-3.

In the second half of the twin billing, Justin Irgens, the starting pitcher, and Onyx Olivaris, the relief pitcher, continued their impressive performance. This time the bats got in on the fun, racking up 10 runs on 11 hits to end the game in six innings with a final score of 10-0.

Coyotes vs Watford City

Friday saw Watford City come to town for the second set of games in two days for a non-conference battle. With the last leg of conference play staring both teams in the face, it was an opportunity to see some young arms get some live action should they be needed come tournament time.

Watford City took an early lead in the first game, but the Coyotes persevered and erased the deficit. Despite a feverish comeback by the Wolves, Williston's offense was able to stay hot and hold on to get the win by a final score of 15-10.

Game 2 against Watford City saw a pitch and hit by committee by the Coyotes, who featured five different pitchers take the mound, along with 16 different batters make apperances at the plate en route to a 10-0 rout to end the game in 6 innings.

While the Coyotes sit in 7th place in the WDA, they are just 3 games back of 1st place Dickinson with 6 conference games left to go in the schedule.

Monday's games against Minot North in Minot and the regular season finale against St. Mary's will be favored by WHS to pick up two sweeps.

A big-time matchup against Jamestown looms between the two and may prove to be the deciding factor, whether or not Williston will jump into the top 6 seeds to avoid a play-in game or have to face an extra game and face the possibility of hosting the WDA tournament while not being a part of it.
