Calling All Campers! Check Out These Camping Hot Spots Around Williston
The calendar says today is the first day of spring. I know...it doesn't look or feel like it, but better weather will be here soon. Now is a perfect time to at least weigh options in western North Dakota for your next camping outing. When the weather finally breaks, and the nice weather sets in, you will not be disappointed with these options.
Theodore Roosevelt National Park is well-known for its rugged badlands, abundant wildlife, and scenic beauty. Within the park, there are three campgrounds ranging from primitive to modern. You can get campsite booking information here.
Lake Sakakawea State Park is located on Lake Sakakawea's shores. This park provides various camping options, including tent camping, RV sites, and cabins. There are also boating, fishing, and hiking opportunities. You can get campsite booking information here.
White Earth Bay is a local favorite and is located on Lake Sakakawea as well. It is a popular fishing and water recreation area, with several campgrounds and boat ramps nearby. The bay is famous for its scenic beauty, with rugged badlands rising up from the coast. White Earth Bay provides excellent opportunities for outdoor recreation and exploration. Lewis and Clark State Park is also located on the shores of Lake Sakakawea. It offers tent and RV camping as well as cabins. There are also boating, fishing, and hiking opportunities. Tobacco Gardens is another local favorite. The campground is 26 miles north of Watford City on Highway 1806. This campground has a full-service restaurant, a convenience store, a bait, and tackle shop, 100 campsites, two log cabins, fuel, family picnic shelters, wireless internet, and hiking trails. It is close to the Birnt Hills Trail, which is about 2.5 miles long and has beautiful views of Lake Sakakawea. It is a Lewis and Clark-certified site. You can get campsite booking information here.
Blacktail Dam is another great campground in our backyard. The park at Blacktail Dam is located about 25 miles north of Williston and offers camping, picnic areas, boating, and several playgrounds.
