The City of Williston Economic Development Department announced that Target Corporation has selected Williston Square as the site of a new retail store, bringing the popular national retailer to western North Dakota for the first time.

The more than 134,000-square-foot store will be located at 3022 Dakota Drive and will be Target’s sixth location in North Dakota. City officials say the decision represents a significant milestone for Williston and reflects both current momentum and long-term growth prospects for the region.

“This is a major win for Williston,” Mayor Howard Klug said. “Our team put in countless hours of recruitment, planning, engineering and design to position our city for an opportunity like this. Williston Square started with a local business, then restaurants followed, and now we have a major anchor that will attract additional retailers.”

Klug compared the development to completing a puzzle, noting that while the timeline may be uncertain, the end result will be worth the effort.

“When we all work together, the results can be amazing,” he said.

Portfolio Commissioner Tori Siemieniewski said Target’s arrival signals strong confidence in Williston’s economy and reinforces the city’s role as a regional commercial hub.

“This achievement required careful planning and teamwork,” Siemieniewski said. “It is a clear sign that our community is thriving and ready for the future.”

Economic Development Director Anna Nelson said the project fulfills both a local and regional need while advancing the master plan for Williston Square.

“It has been a privilege working with the Target Corporation team to help them realize a vision here in Williston,” Nelson said. “This milestone reflects the growth we have experienced and foreshadows continued growth in the years ahead.”

The Target store will sit west of existing Williston Square tenants, including Slim Chickens, Genesis, Taco Bell and 7 Brew. City leaders say the development aligns with the area’s long-term vision of creating a vibrant mixed-use destination focused on shopping, dining, living and entertainment.
