
Williston ND School Board to Appoint New Member—Here’s What to Know
Following the passing of school board director Mr. John Kasmer in January 2025, the Williston Basin School District #7 (WBSD7) School Board has announced its decision to appoint a qualified individual to serve the remainder of his term. This term will run through June 30, 2025. If you have ever thought about serving your community in a unique way, this might be a good start.

This appointment will be a short-term, temporary position, and there will be no public voting process. The school board will directly appoint the new member. Individuals who wish to serve beyond June 30, 2025, must file for candidacy and run in the regular school board election scheduled for June 3, 2025.
Application Process
Community members interested in being considered for the appointment are encouraged to submit the required documents by the specified deadline. The necessary documents include:
- School Board Application Form
- Affidavit of Candidacy
- Statement of Interests (All forms must be completed, signed, and dated.)
Important Deadlines
- Submission Deadline: All documents must be received by 4:00 PM CST on February 25, 2025.
- Application Review: On February 26, 2025, submitted applications will be provided to board members for review.
- Appointment Meeting: On February 28, 2025, at 12:00 PM, the board will hold a special meeting to appoint the new school board member.
- Term Duration: The appointed individual’s term will begin on February 28, 2025, and conclude on June 30, 2025.
