For the first time, the Williams County Sheriff’s Office has brought the Corrections Officers Basic Academy to Williston, allowing deputies to complete their required training locally.

Previously, deputies had to travel elsewhere in North Dakota to fulfill this requirement.

The Academy is essential for all corrections deputies, who must become state-certified within their first year of employment, as mandated by the ND Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

The launch of the Academy in Williston marks the culmination of years of effort, including developing a comprehensive curriculum and securing qualified instructors.

Seven Williams County Corrections Deputies made up the inaugural class, completing 120 hours of training that covered vital topics like case law, legal liabilities, and de-escalation techniques.

The Sheriff’s Office plans to continue offering this essential training locally, ensuring that future deputies have convenient access to certification.
