Tetons at Bismarck State Women’s Basketball Pre-Game Primer
The Williston State Tetons are back on the road tonight to take on Bismarck State and the Mysitcs.
Starting the evening off will be the Women's game, which tips off at 5:30 pm CST. The Tetons are looking to make it 2-0 against BSC following a quick trip to Bismarck for a 73-64 win in November.
In that game, the Tetons came back from a 9 point half time deficit, and put up 45 second half points.
Bismarck States comes into the game fresh on a three game win streak, including two against Mon-Dak opponents. The 9-6 Mystics (6-3 Mon-Dak) enter the tied for third place in conference play with the Tetons. The winner of the game will move into a sole possession of third place, and just one game back of second.
The Mystics are averaging 68.7 points per game while hitting 36% of their shots from the field, and 27% from beyond the arc.
Sydney Gustavsson leads the way in scoring, pouring in 18.5 points per game, with Ashton Kinnebrew (17.8 ppg) also contributing to the royals offensive output.
Williston State comes into the game 10-6 overall on the season, and are riding a four game win streak, and 8-2 in their last 10. The team is averaging 66.1 points per game, while shooting 42.6% overall and 28.9% from deep.
Tetons are led in scoring by Emily Kurkowsky with 15.9 points per game, and joining her in the double digit club is fellow sophomore guard Hayley Macdonald.
Three things to watch for:
1. Dynamic Duos: Kurkowski and Macdonald for the Tetons have been doing some heavy lifting offensively, while Gustavsson and Kinnebrew gave Williston State all they could handle early on in the season.
2. Cleaning Up The Glass: The Mystics are opportunistic when they get a second chance to score, with a whole host of shooters on the perimeter. If Williston State allows for second chance opportunities and is out of defensive position while crashing the boards it could turn into a shootout in Bismarck.
3. Locking In: Earlier this week there were stretches of the game that the Tetons looked like world beaters against Lake Region State, but letting off the gas quickly saw a trickle of momentum turn into a torrent making the game significantly closer than it should have been against the Royals.
