Drone Delivery Reaches New Heights In Rural North Dakota
Through a partnership between iSight Drone Services and Vantis, the state’s beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) network, a drone successfully transported medical supplies over 80 miles from Williston to Watford City—marking a major milestone for long-range, real-world drone delivery.

To address this, the mission relied on Vantis’ real-time surveillance and detection systems, which helped pilots maintain awareness and avoid other aircraft throughout the journey.
This flight was the first demonstration conducted under Project RuralReach, which is managed by the University of North Dakota Center for Innovation and funded by the U.S. Economic Development Administration.
iSight Drone Services received a $50,000 grant to explore how long-distance drone logistics can support underserved communities in western North Dakota.

With this successful mission, North Dakota takes a clear step toward reshaping how rural areas receive life-saving goods—one drone flight at a time.
