Runnings, a prominent Minnesota-based retailer, has announced its acquisition of a longstanding North Dakota retail chain, Home of Economy.

This strategic move will expand Runnings' presence to 90 locations nationwide, significantly bolstering its footprint across North Dakota.

Runnings, founded in 1947 and owned by the Dennis and Adele Reed Family, is renowned for its extensive product range, including pet supplies, sporting goods, clothing, lawn and garden supplies, housewares, tools, farm supplies, toys, and outdoor equipment. The company employs over 3,000 people across its privately held retail stores and operates in 12 states, from New York to Montana.

Runnings Strengthens North Dakota Presence with New Store Acquisitions

The Capital Region already hosts two Runnings stores, one in south Bismarck and another on Main Street in Mandan. The latest acquisition involves eight Home of Economy stores located in Grand Forks, Grafton, Devils Lake, Rugby, Minot, Williston, Jamestown, and Watford City. This expansion underscores Runnings' commitment to increasing its market presence and accessibility to customers in North Dakota.

Home of Economy, which Bob and Jean Kiesau founded 85 years ago, has a long history and a sizable customer base. While the stores will continue to operate under the Home of Economy name for a limited period, they will eventually transition to the Runnings brand. The acquisition is expected to be finalized by September, ensuring a seamless integration of operations and services.
