North Dakota Nods as U-Haul Movers Keep Us on the Map!
In the world of constant analysis, U-Haul has released its annual moving trends report, and North Dakota is holding its own!

North Dakota Climbs the Moving Charts with Improvement
As the moving company published their latest rankings on states with the highest net gain or loss of one-way movers, the Peace Garden State showed a touch of upward momentum. We moved up from 32nd to a proud 31st place. Way to go, North Dakota! A steady improvement proves that we’re still packing up a good deal of appeal.
Midwest Movers: Minnesota Rises, Montana Slips, South Dakota Holds Steady
Montana, our neighbor to the west, took a small tumble, dropping from 21st to 24th. South Dakota, ever the steady sibling, stayed put in 19th place. Meanwhile, Minnesota, the land of 10,000 lakes (and apparently a growing number of new residents), climbed from 20th to 18th. It seems our regional charm is holding firm in the heartland!
South Carolina Surges Ahead, Dethroning Texas as Top U-Haul Destination
Across the country, South Carolina has shaken things up, climbing three spots to snatch the crown from Texas, which had enjoyed a three-year reign as U-Haul’s No. 1 growth state. More than 51.7% of U-Haul movers in 2024 were making South Carolina their new home. Meanwhile, Texas, the perennial heavyweight, has been in the top two every year since 2016. Florida, known for its sunshine and retirees, has consistently held a top-four spot since 2015.
Not all states fared as well. New York hit a decade-low at 47th, reminding us that not everyone is drawn to the Big Apple. Some of the biggest year-over-year leaps were seen in Oklahoma (+30), Indiana (+19), and Maine (+18). But it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows—Colorado, Nevada, Wyoming, and New Mexico took the hardest hits, sliding down the rankings by more than 20 spots each.
So, here's to North Dakota—may we continue to climb those rankings and keep our movers (and shakers) happy!
