Before You Decorate: What Williston North Dakota Needs to Know for Memorial Day
As Memorial Day approaches in Williston, local officials are asking residents to keep a few important cemetery guidelines in mind before honoring loved ones this holiday season. Memorial Day will be observed on Monday, May 25, and city crews are already preparing for one of the busiest cleanup and maintenance periods of the year at local cemeteries.

Williston Asks Residents To Wait Before Memorial Day Cemetery Decorating
The City of Williston Public Works Department is reminding community members to wait until Wednesday, May 20, before placing Memorial Day decorations at cemetery sites. The temporary restriction helps crews complete important spring cleanup efforts and routine maintenance work throughout the grounds.
Every year, families and friends visit local cemeteries to place flowers, flags, wreaths, and other decorations in remembrance of veterans and loved ones who have passed away. While the decorations add a meaningful and patriotic touch to the holiday, city officials say timing is important so maintenance crews can safely and efficiently prepare the cemetery grounds ahead of the busy weekend.

Memorial Day Decorations Must Be Removed By May 31
Residents should also make note of the removal deadline. All Memorial Day decorations must be removed by Sunday, May 31. Any items left behind after that date will be collected by cemetery staff as part of ongoing maintenance operations.
If decorations are removed by staff, they will be stored temporarily at the Riverview Cemetery Office, located at 815 9th Avenue West in Williston. Items will be held for five days and can be picked up during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
City officials say these policies help keep the cemetery looking respectful and well-maintained for all visitors throughout the holiday season and into the summer months.
Anyone with questions about cemetery decorations or cleanup procedures is encouraged to contact Public Works directly at 701-577-6368.
