McKenzie County Sounds the Alarm in ND – Fire Safety Event You Can’t Miss!
How often do you actually check your smoke detector? Do you do it when we move the clocks? Do you do it in October for Fire Prevention Week? McKenzie County is about to host an interesting event that will draw all eyes to those smoke detectors.
Free Smoke Detectors & Fire Safety Visits In Arnegard and Alexander on April 26
Mckenzie County Emergency Management, Arnegard Fire Protection District and Alexander Fire Department are teaming up with the ND Red Cross to host a Sound the Alarm event on April 26th in Arnegard and Alexander. The Red Cross is offering free smoke detectors for those who need them and providing home fire safety visits.
And here's the best part, they're giving away a smoke detector! If you'd like to request a free smoke detector or schedule a safety visit, click here or call our office at 701-444-7483.

An event like this does require some manpower. If you're interested in volunteering to help with this important event, organizers would welcome you! You can reach out to their office for more details.
Working Smoke Alarms Are a Must
- Install smoke alarms on every level of your home, inside bedrooms and outside sleeping areas, on the ceiling or high on the wall
- Keep smoke alarms away from the kitchen, at least 10 feet from the stove, to reduce false alarms
- Use special alarms with strobe lights and bed shakers for people who are hard of hearing or deaf
- Test smoke alarms monthly
- Replace batteries in your smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector annually
- Replace smoke alarms that are 10 or more years old
Let’s work together to make our community safer!
