We keep hearing whispers of October snow in North Dakota.

Nothing seems to rattle the cage of North Dakotans more than an early snow.

Our friends with the Bismarck Bubble recently shared a weather model (again, not a forecast, but rather a model) from the ECMWF, also known as the European model, of a potential snow event for North Dakota. The timing looks to be somewhere between October 13th and October 15th. It doesn't appear this will be a back-breaking, snow-shoveling event if it does happen, but it could accumulate. Here's that graphic.

The Bismarck Bubble, which by the way, we consider to be the area's "weather whisperer", also made their prediction for our first snow in the Capital Region. Their bold bet, if we don't see snow from this mid-October snow chance, expect another snow potential by week 3 of the month.

Even the last week of the month, heading into Halloween, looks cold enough for snow in North Dakota.

If you are somebody who is hoping to delay old man winter for as long as possible, the good news, if we can somehow make it past October without any flakes, the early part of November looks to be warmer than normal.

In the meantime, speaking of warmer than normal, we could break an all-time record high in Bismarck today with high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s. Rain moves in Saturday afternoon and night (possibly heavy) before temperatures crash on Sunday with high temperatures only in the upper 50s. Fall is coming (and maybe winter), so enjoy those shorts while you can.
