Powerful Thunderstorms In The Forecast For Much Of North Dakota
Severe weather is likely for most of North Dakota starting this afternoon and especially tonight.
According to the National Weather Service in Bismarck, it could be a bumpy weekend with several rounds of potential severe weather.
The first round is expected to begin late this afternoon after a warm and muggy day. Temperatures of 90°F or higher will be the norm for today, Saturday, and Sunday. Hot and humid air will set the stage for powerful thunderstorm development.
What are the potential impacts of these storms?
Damaging winds as high as 70 miles per hour, golf ball-sized hail, and a tornado or two are possible. Tornado development is expected east of the Missouri River along or east of Highway 83.
Much of the state is under a Level 2 threat for severe weather today.
It would be a good idea to be weather aware, especially today. As this is a rather significant area that appears to be in the bullseye for impactful weather.
More severe weather potential exists for Saturday afternoon and evening, and the same with Sunday, before a cold front cools us down into the lower 80s on Monday.
Our staff meteorologists from the Severe Weather Studios Radio Network will keep you informed on-air.
In the meantime, enjoy a warm summer weekend. There aren't many of these remaining.
