6 New Laws Set To Go Into Effect In North Dakota August 1st
Summer is flying by, and the final day of July is here.
We still have some warm summer days to look forward to, but August is a transition month as we begin to at least think about fall.
August brings us WE Fest, back to school, we start to notice the days are getting shorter, football season is back, and we have a set of new laws you should know about starting on August 1st in North Dakota.
According to a newscast I saw on Valley News Live out of Fargo, here are just some of the new laws set to change.
#1 The 80-mile-per-hour speed limit will go into effect on Interstate 29 and Interstate 94.
My thoughts: I already drive 80 miles per hour on the interstate as it is. I've never received a ticket for going 5 miles per hour over the speed limit. You can bet law enforcement will be issuing tickets for people speeding 5 miles per hour over starting August 1st. At least initially.
#2 Cell phones are banned in classrooms across North Dakota.
My thoughts: I really dislike this law. If I need to get a hold of my son in a God forbid situation like an active shooter, I want to be able to do so.
#3 The popular "blackout" license plates will become available.
My thoughts: I personally really like the look of these, and depending on what color your vehicle is, these plates will really look sharp. I plan to get one for my blue & black Ford Truck.
#4 The Property Tax Credit will triple from $500 to $1600.
My thoughts: As a homeowner, all I can say is it's about time. I'm a huge fan of this new law. The Governor says the Legacy Fund will pay for the increase. Thank you, Mr. Armstrong.
#5 The new "Feather Alert" will go into effect to alert the public of missing Native Americans.
My thoughts: If you look at the list of missing people in North Dakota every year, this seems like a very good idea. I'm 100% in favor of this. The Feather Alert will be activated by the Emergency Alert System.
#6 You will now have to prove you are over 18 to go to a pornography site while in North Dakota.
This is according to the North Dakota Monitor.
My thoughts: This law is to protect our minors from viewing explicit content. Which is obviously a good idea. Opponents of this law say you will have to give personal information to potentially sketchy sites. I can see where that is going to lead to potential problems, too.
There you go. 6 new laws you should know about in North Dakota. Plan accordingly.
