Back in the day, you could smoke anywhere. Restaurants, the workplace, waiting rooms of doctor's offices, airplanes, and you could even smoke in your hospital bed.

It's hard to believe that not that long ago, we allowed this and didn't know how bad cigarettes were for us.

Fast-forward to 2024. We have created many laws and restrictions to protect the public's health.

Now, smokers can't smoke in public places. They are pretty much restricted to their homes and cars.

Smoking In Cars With Kids

Have you ever driven down the road, looked over, and noticed the person in the car beside you smoking? After that, you also see they have a child in the car.

I'm not here to judge or point fingers, but everyone knows smoking is terrible, and I do question, subjecting young children to the smoke.

Secondhand smoke is very damaging to their growing lungs.

Is It Illegal in North Dakota?

Sadly, it is not illegal to smoke in cars with kids. A bill was proposed in 2019 to outlaw this, but the House killed it.

According to Valley News Live, the bill would have allowed police officers to pull you over and fine you $25 if you were smoking in a car with a child under nine years of age.

As of 2024, only 11 states have laws banning this.

They are Alabama, Arkansas, California, Delaware, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Oregon, Utah, Vermont, and Virginia.

Thoughts?

What do you think? Should North Dakota push to make this illegal? Send us a message in the app.
