It's this way in North Dakota - "Hard to think of winter weather when it's 82 degrees out"

The above statement is so true, we ( North Dakotans ) find ourselves willingly trying to convince everyone around us, including myself, that MAYBE winter cold weather won't be so harsh. I mean, after all, it's almost 80 degrees out and we are already in October. People are STILL walking around wearing shorts.

Unfortunately, we all know Mother Nature is coming

That's pretty much a fact, the only thing is, WHEN. This year, here in Mandan, on the strip, construction work began back in early April, and for their hard work, all the planning and manpower put in so far, a bigger foe is lurking - Mother Nature. I have to say it's been so impressive watching the workers progress, and I also have to give props to all the local businesses that have been patient and understanding - and that's not easy to do when our water has been shut off twice now. I'm right there with you, when the biggest question of them all is - "Will construction be complete before the weather lady throws a tantrum? Memorial Highway - on the strip

Here is a timeline for you

dot.nd.gov has this to say:

The Memorial Highway Reconstruction project has been an ongoing coordination effort between the City of Mandan and the North Dakota Department of Transportation. Construction is anticipated to occur from 2025 through 2027, with work beginning on the eastern portion of the roadway from 32nd Avenue SE to 46th Avenue SE in the spring of 2025.

Key project improvements include:

  • Add sidewalk and shared use path
  • Improve traffic flow and intersection safety
  • Improve drainage
  • Address pavement at the end of useful life

All I can say is WE are going to have a challenging winter ahead of us.
