DAISY Award Shines a Light on Exceptional Nurses in Williston, ND
At CHI St. Alexius Health Williston, nurses are more than just caregivers—they’re everyday heroes. That’s why Lindsey Beech, RN, and Emily Manire, RN, were recently honored with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses®, recognizing the compassion and exceptional care they bring to their patients and families.
Beech and Manire, both RNs on the MedSurg unit, were chosen as 3rd quarter recipients of this prestigious award. Their nomination came from a grateful mother whose son was under their care. She praised the duo for not only providing outstanding medical care but also for becoming friends to her son during a scary time.
“They made sure my son felt safe and special,” the nomination letter shared. “Whenever Lindsey or Emily walked into the room, his face would light up with a smile.” The mother added, “They helped me understand every step of his care and always worked hard to make my son feel better—mission accomplished!”
What is the DAISY Award?
The DAISY Award is a global program honoring the exceptional work of nurses. Established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who passed away at 33 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), the foundation was inspired by the extraordinary care Patrick and his family received during his illness. DAISY stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System, but the program has grown to recognize all nurses who make a meaningful difference in their patients’ lives.

A Special Honor
Recipients of The DAISY Award don’t just receive recognition—they’re celebrated. Honorees are presented with a certificate of appreciation, a DAISY Award pin, and a hand-carved sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, created by artists from the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe. These tokens symbolize the profound impact nurses have on their patients every day.
Honoring Heroes Every Day
At CHI St. Alexius Health Williston, recognizing the dedication of nurses is a priority. Lorrie Antos, VP of Patient Care Services, shared, “We’re proud to participate in The DAISY Award program. Nurses are heroes, and this program allows us to show them just how much they’re valued.”
Beech and Manire’s recognition is part of a broader movement. The DAISY Award celebrates nurses in over 3,900 healthcare facilities and schools of nursing worldwide. From direct care nurses to nursing students and faculty, the program shines a light on the extraordinary efforts of this vital profession.
