Compassion in Action: North Dakota’s Hygiene Bag Drive Supports Recovery Journeys
I saw this poster at lunch yesterday, and I love what the organizers are doing! September will be here before you know it, and it's when communities across the country come together to recognize National Recovery Month — a time to celebrate the strength of those who have overcome addiction, rebuilt their lives, and continue striving toward a brighter future. In Williston, that spirit takes center stage through an uplifting local initiative called SOBER AF, a growing movement that blends community, compassion, and the shared commitment to recovery.
A key addition this year is the Fresh Start Hygiene Bag Drive — an initiative focused on gathering basic but essential items like:
- Toothbrushes
- Toothpaste
- Hair brushes
- Socks
- Feminine products
- Shampoo
- Hair ties
- Body soap
- Q-tips
- deodorant
- Razors
- Shaving Cream
Hygiene Bags Offer Dignity and Support for North Dakotans Starting Over
These hygiene bags are distributed to individuals in transition, including those experiencing homelessness or reintegrating after incarceration. The effort sends a powerful message of dignity and care to those starting over.
Giving Has Never Been Easier
Local volunteers have streamlined the donation process, making it easy to contribute. Items can be sponsored through Venmo, CashApp, or purchased directly from an Amazon registry. The drive allows people to participate on any level...from financial support to simply spreading the word.
You can also drop items off at these locations in Williston:
- Elevated By Nassa - 313 Main Street Suite 309
- F5 Project - 1411 W. Dakota Parkway Suite 3A
- Choice Recovery - 705 E. Highland Dr. Suite E
More than just an event, SOBER AF is a community lifeline. It's a bold reminder that no one has to face recovery alone. It stands as a beacon of hope, proving that with compassion and community, healing is always possible.
