Fort Buford Sixth Infantry Celebrates 60th Anniversary 1962-2022

Williston, ND (KEYZ) The Fort Buford Sixth Infantry Regimental Association proudly announces that
this year it is celebrating its 60th Anniversary. It is one of the oldest living history organizations in the
United States to this day.

The Fort Buford Sixth Infantry was established in 1962, by Ben Innis, a North Dakota historian and
promoter of Western American history. Ben’s specific interest was the history of the MissouriYellowstone Confluence Area. Ben was also one of many individuals that helped to get Fort Union
Trading Post in the National Park System in 1966.

The Fort Buford Sixth Infantry has been a living history organization that is dedicated to preserving the
history of the Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence Area and the history of the common soldier that was
stationed at Fort Buford throughout the fort’s history from 1866-1895.

The Sixth Infantry has been involved in numerous living history and historical education events
throughout its sixty-year history. The Fort Buford Sixth Infantry remains active in community events
throughout the year with events at Fort Buford State Historic Site and others in the Confluence Region.

2022 Event Schedule:
Band Day, May 7, 2022, Williston, ND– Members will be marching in 1876 campaign/ field dress
Fort Buford Flag Raising, May 28, 2022– Raise the historical 37-star US Flag at Noon CST to start the
tourism season.
Fort Buford 6th Infantry Encampment, July 9-10– Living History event, Fort Buford State Historic Site
Fort Buford 6th Infantry Military Show, September 10-11– Upper Missouri Valley Fairgrounds, Buy,
Sell, Trade and Display
Riverview Cemetery Union Veterans Dedication, September– Date to be determined
Fort Buford Cemetery Ghost Walk, Oct–Date to be determined
