Williston, ND (KEYZ) The new position of Human Resources Director for the City of Williston is a long time in coming, and officials say the city’s unprecedented rapid growth has made it necessary, not a luxury to have a manager who’s duties are to cater exclusively to the needs and desires of employees. “Only five years ago we had about 150 employees,” says David Tuan the City Administrator, now we have 300 and the rolls are expected to grow as the city expands,” he tells News Radio.
Fifty-year-old Chery Pierzina, actually began her duties as the HR Director on Monday May 8th. Pierzina, has more than 15 years human resources experience in the public sector with extensive knowledge of governmental and administrative practices including labor relations, contract interpretation, and wage and salary administration. Something she will need to draw on as she deals with the City’s growing staff. Her most recent job was with human resources at Williston Public School District 1, where she had almost whimsically threw her hat into the ring, “necessarily looking to change jobs.” “What appealed to me was starting a new position that I could build and grow,” says Pierzina. “It wasn’t an easy decision. I have worked for school districts since 1990, so when I left, I was feeling nostalgic,” she adds.
Pierzina is certified through Society for Human Resource Management as a Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP). “She comes to us with good experience and training in HR, as well as a strong background in the various challenges facing public organizations today,” says Tuan.
