Williston, ND (KEYZ) A series of seven (7) public input meetings begin today over Williston Public School District #1’s imminent plans to build a new elementary school. Superintendent Michael Campbell says there will be seven meetings in all, the first two tonight, at 5:30 at Hagen Elementary school library, followed by one at Wiliston Middle Schools Gym, door three at 7:30.
“The school district is still growing we are getting new students enrolled every day,” he tells news radio. “Some of our elementary school classrooms have 25 or 26 students in them and we need to get that number back down,” he concludes.
School district officials and those with JLG Architects will answer all of your questions the proposed new campus. Campbell tells news radio pre enrollment of kindergarted has already showed a 40 student increase for the next school year, and class sizes are getting to average 25 when a normal class size should hover at about 19 or 20.
One of the biggest opportunites for the public is to sound off on location. Although using a portion of the Sloulin Field property, once the airport moves to the new terminal, is one idea, however Campbell says that may not happen in time. “I don’t know if we will have the oppurtunity to wait the five to seven years for that property to be available, so we have to keep looking,” he says.
The rest of the meetings are listed below. It’s important to remember, you can attend the meeting that is most convenient for you and your family, it does not have to be associated with the school your child attends.
